Spotlight - Picatinny Arsenal
May 2nd of 2019 JROTC Cadets had the honor to be invited to Picatinny Arsenal in Morris county, New Jersey where cadets learned about various departments in the STEAM program. Cadets have been learning all about EODs, weapons, vehicles, and robots that engineers themselves sketch, make, and create!
This field of study shows cadets all about what people do that make the technology and tools for everyday soldiers in the field. Cadets have gotten the chance to take a tour of 4 departments one being EOD in which cadets have learned about robots, bombs and what precautions EOD techs take when on a mission and also EOD suits that are worn to protect the diffuser which could range up to 75 pounds of dead weight, next we went to Artillery where we learned more about new tech guns and vehicles that are being updated and made with new high tech gear that are easier to control and see. Then we went to the 3D printing department where cadets have learned about the development and capabilities of the machines that are used to make about anything you can possibly think of! After we took a small ride to mortar artillery where we also had an opportunity to learn about the history of mortars and different types of ammo and models of mortar artillery. Cadets then have the chance to sit down and eat MRE’s for lunch and cool down after a long day of walking and standing. We really appreciate being invited to such an outstanding environment filled with great opportunities of learning we hope everyone enjoyed themselves and to be invited again soon!
